(See Alchemy) It was Harold's hope that he could transmute the lead within himself (his sluggishness, etc. Saturn-like qualities that tend to "crystallize" and make slow) into something more desirable. It was by accident that he transformed silver.
When attempting to transmute lead to a gold color, Harold changed parts of the coin he was using as a base to a gold color (see photos). The process is not suitable for large-scale production of gold just yet (it may never be) but producing gold in large quantities was not Harold's end purpose, but rather to find something which would transmute radioactive material into something benign. Where did Harold get the radioactive material? He's been using Americium from old smoke detectors.
As you can see, Harold has come this far on his own. Harold desperately needs a donor or company that will sponsor him with laboratory equipment and chemicals so that He may go "all the way with this." Bear in mind Harold is most of the way there. He needs equipment for analysis of minerals and metals, reliable equipment for heating and measuring heat, for measuring radiation and a whole host of things that someone could, probably, write off their taxes and be the first modern company to sponsor The Great Work. There are undoubtedly medical and pharmaceutical qualities to this process that have not been discovered in modern times (that we know of).
All Harold can say is, "The Truth. Which is that I have indeed succeeded in this transformation, as the photos of the coin show (the coin itself is more dramatic) and have witnesses who can verify that this is not a fraud."
"So, although I can't prove it yet for lack of testing equipment, it is my opinion that what you are seeing on the front of this coin is mono-atomic gold, yellow gold and alloys thereof, as well as silver alloyed with gold. Mono-atomic gold, as you know if you follow these things, is known as the "white powder gold" of legend. And, although Harold cannot directly share the secret of how to make the alchemical gold products, as that is forbidden to an alchemist/mage, I will certainly share the secret with my sponsors of how to change radioactive material into something benign when I am sure of the process (as there is no prohibition against this type of thing)."
Women take note: if you feel underpaid, this work will effect you! As above, so below.
I consider the transformation of water in sealed containers even more incredible than the transformation of gold from silver. Never the less, legend has it that societies that can transform gold from silver and silver from gold value men's and women's work equally.
