The Three Steps of Alchemy (three moving elemental system ) refers to all the 3's. The items listed do not necessarily correspond across the table. The elemental correspondences can change position depending on what is going on. If you solidify mercury, then something else has to stand for fire. All of these things can become earth. That is why the emerald tablet says, "Separate the elements with great subtly" (i.e. separate the fire from the earth)
