A monumental work. I recommend it to anyone who would like to understand reality.

Using examples of Egyptian and early Christian art, McCloud demonstrates how comics have always had a place in human communications. He analyzes the different aspects of comic reality -- really taking on ART.

He proves to me (I'm already a comic buff) way beyond what I had already suspected that comics are the ne plus ultra of commercial art. But don't get me wrong, though this book will open your eyes to what's going on in comics, this work transcends all previous treatments of comics as an art form and as a way of dissecting reality. Simply magick.

Scott does not use "cut and paste" when giving examples of differing art styles, he reproduces all the style himself. He shows versatility and a grasp of other people's styles far above the norm.
