Blood is a complex subject in the simple material world, and even more complex in its meaning to humans and the Demiurge (God/dess created) and the creatures and devices humans have created in the astral.

Washing blood off or throwing away the gloves after surgery, does not clean the aura or remove the aural and ethric creatures and "spirits" that feed on blood. Many of the attributes of blood are also attributes of other bodily fluids.
It is important to understand the symbolic significance and the power of giving attention to the washing of your hands as the cleansing of self and the universe, take a monent of silence to quite your mind and ground yourself and resolve yourself and the universe. This will do a lot to cleansing the total self and your suroundsings. Some cultures do this before prayer.

Blood connects us to the Earth as a "grounding" or "solidifying"
substance when we are not completely "in our bodies" or, as psychiatrists would
say, "disassociated".

Harold expalins that: It was said by Crowley that before God would hear the children of Eve, blood sacrifice was needed, i.e. Able became more solid than Cain (who was still somewhat etherial.see: The Secret Doctrine by Blavatsky). The Bible reference is Genesis 4:3-11. Some of this is based on an interesting idea is that Adam, Eve and Eve's children were whole, not cellular, beings. Cain took a wife from the land of Nod. She would have been a cellular (original sin by division) creature because she was decended from the union of Adam and Lillith. (your webmaster thinks Lillith is getting a bad rap here -- being she's presented as a sex monster et al. Stanger things have been ture). The solid bodies of Eve & her children were not the diamond, crystal bodies.

Blood is stuff of several dimentions.
Witness the trouble men have when they stop ejaculating and women have in menopause. That's not just hormones, there's more to it.
The entities that they have unkowingly been feeding for years on their blood-related fuilds are no longer getting fed.
Then comes, supposed old age, the time when entities make their host sick and start feeding on their bodies and their minds. These spirits may lead us to places of pain, like hospitials, that are materially santitized but etherically very contaminated. Miasmic entites exist there, also.
Semen is the male equivalent of blood, but women have it twice as bad because it's real blood. So at one time, after women stopped menstruating and their teeth were gone, they were left out for the hyenas, unless there was recourse with the spiritual leader. The point is: some of the things that seem unavoidable, like old age, are simply the actions of "things" we have been feeding that are now turning against us. This is avoidable with the proper magick. This is part of aura health and cleaning.
Nowadays, blood, because of it's strange characteristics, attracts psychic paracites. The spirits sometimes desire blood in order to take form (become solid).

Why are these things occult?
Because some of the things that happen are such that we do not want to face them.
So many times, it is just a question of "just who you are sacrificing to?"
After male menopausal age, many put on "armor" of fat or muscle. A comfort layer between them and the "others".
Many believe that aural/etheric parasites attack the spine (meningitis), the pancreas (diabetes) and the colon (death begins in the colon). Some native cultures keep a baby's umbilical cord in a special pouch to prevent "spirits" from entering the naval.
At any rate this ramble around the point should give you some idea of what I'm getting at without saying too much specifically.
Christains take note: The Christ Jesus shed his blood for your redemption and that blood sacrifice is no longer needed -- God sees us as though we are Christ. To reforce this, or take refuge, take communion within the church or bless your own communion at home with God through the Holy Spirit.
